Fernando Monroy has over 20 years of experience in the wireless communications industry, with over 14 years in senior management roles. Prior to starting up Reliable Applied Wireless in January of 2005, he had served at YSC, Inc. since April of 2002, a regional full turnkey general contractor to the wireless community. As General Manager, he directed the day-to-day operations for providing support to each one of the top five cellular carriers in the Northeast market. With an effective business development effort, he grew the company by more than 60% within two years, exceeding $10 million in gross annual revenues. This successful growth was achieved by diversifying from providing strictly general construction services to expanded offerings, including site acquisition, A&E and installation/integration services. Growth also resulted with the expansion the customer base from primarily T-Mobile to include all of the top five cellular carriers by utilizing strong industry relationships.
At General Dynamics’ Wireless division served as Operations Program Director for the East Region from 2000 to 2002. Responsible for P&L performance, program management, and business development for all activities relevant to the deployment of wireless communication facilities. He managed the development and execution of a $40M annual budget, directed the staffing and subcontracting of personnel located in ten offices servicing east region markets spanning from Maine to Florida.
Formerly serving as President of Conectel Colombia from 1996 to 2000, a privately held communications company, operating in South America, he built a nationwide paging and internet network from the ground up. This company evolved to become the largest operator in a market of 120 operators within a two year period, reaching operating profitability and positive cash flow in just under three years. Leading a staff of 400 plus employees, that spread out over eight regional offices in two countries. Successfully negotiated and merged several acquisitions in both Colombia and Venezuela.
Prior to that, he served as General Manager for The Radio Exchange in New Jersey from 1993 to 1996, directing the overall operations and business development of this construction contracting business. Grew this twelve person regional operation to a crew of eighty skilled contractors, providing turnkey services on a national level.
From 1985 to 1993 worked for Southwestern Bell in several field managerial and staff executive positions ranging from Engineering Manager to Technical Director in both domestic and international operations for the wireless division. Domestic positions included managing several wireless networks across the US. Internationally lead the deployment and operations of start-up cellular networks in Australia, South Korea and Mexico.
